Hey guys! Before I list the types of scams you should watch out for, let me just tell you something. In the posts, here's what the color of a person's user means:
Red: This means that this person is a scammer.
Orange: This means that this person is a bully.
Blue: This means that this person is a hacker.
Green: This means that this person has been proven to no longer scam or has been proven innocent (ex: It was really a hacker on their account that was scamming).
Pink: This means that this person is a flasher. I have made this separate from scammers because not a lot of people know that flashing IS scamming. So people listed in pink may be possible scammers, but are probably not and do not pose a big threat.

Trusting: This is when somebody puts a cheap item on their trade, and expects you to trade them something rare. They will promise you that they will trade back, but will run away once you trade them.
Betting: This is when somebody will play a game with you, and the winner gets one of the others' items. Sometimes when the winner gets the item, the other will want to trade back and an item gets scammed in the process.
Rarity Lying: Sometimes more experienced players will take advantage of newbies or people who don't know about the newest item, and lie about it's rarity. They may say that it was from the beta times, or it's a really rare item. If you don't know the item, research it before trading.
Declining: This is one of the most common ways to get scammed. Somebody will yell "TRADE ME I WILL DECLINE EVERY TIME!" and have very cheap items on trade. Yet, if they get a really good trade, they will accept and run off.
Contest Scamming: This is when somebody says "Best trade gets my ______!" They will probably get a few trades, and when they get a really good one, they will accept and run off with your item. In very rare instances, they WILL give the item, but I would still avoid them.
Flashing: Animal Jam HQ fixed this one for the most part, but it still happens a lot especially in Wootmoo's den. Somebody will send a really fast trade to the other, and that person tries to accept in that moment. Even though it's almost impossible to accept the trade, some jammers are able to and they run off with the item.
Item Begging: Sometimes jammers will say "Send me things it's my birthday!" or "Send me things my ____ got scammed!" Most people will take pity on them and send them something good. When in reality, it was never their birthday or they never actually got scammed.
Membership Codes: This is when a jammer asks for a rare item and in turn, will tell a membership code. There are no free membership codes, and once a real one is used it cannot be used again. And in rare cases, they will tell a real one but will make the situation worse because if you give a membership code to somebody, you can HACK into their account. DO NOT accept membership codes from ANYBODY!
Classic Scam: This is one of the most "basic" scams and a lot of newbies fall for it. It is when somebody says "If you send me your _____ I will send you my _____." They will not send the item.
Fake Recording: This is when somebody says "Send me things I'm recording." Most of the time they will not be recording, and will run off with items that should not have been sent to them in the first place.
Crashed Trade Scam: This is when a jammer lies about his or her trade system and says it doesn't work. They will ask somebody to send the item to them instead, but will run off with the item once it is given to them.
Other: Any other scams that don't fit into these categories.
Cvutie told me xxwolfthunder2002xx scammed by saying she was doing a giveaway, and quitting. She told members to send her rares and she'd give something back, and told NM's to trade and she'd decline. Of course, she didn't keep her word. So that's a form of the trust scam, declining, and a bit of the other category, too!
ReplyDeleteI found a new type of scam! Tiff1242 said to put your best stuff on trade for a red fox hat, and to accept, even though she traded bad stuff, like a lamp. Whoever accepted would win the fox hat. Then, someone accepted, and she said "Yay, you win!" and proceeded to lock her den.
ReplyDelete*gasp* Contest Scamming is a form of SCAMMING?! I've participated in those a lot because I thought they were kind of fun....thanks for telling me or I would probably have lost some really good items!!

Why not? I'm part of the SWS, (ajsws, or Animal Jam Scam Watcher Society), and the only reason you wouldn't tell us the leader is that you're part of it. So there, Anon.

There is a form of scamming where someone is like "send me unwanted items". Some people may think that it is a harmless way to get rid of items, but it is a scam because there is the things called the Trading System and "recycling" items!

ReplyDeleteMy trade sometimes doesn't work so I reload the page instead :) so ya but I never use that scam. I got scammed before :-(
